The mass production of the "Aframaks" tankers started in Primorye. The start of the construction of new unique vessels was given by the Governor of Primorye, a.i. Oleg Kozhemyako and the Chief Executive Director of “Rosneft” Igor Sechin on November 15 at “Zvezda” shipyard, DEITA.RU reports.

The vessel will be the second one - the construction of the first, leading one, began in September 2018 during the IV Eastern Economic Forum. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin was present at its laying.

Oleg Kozhemyako congratulated the shipbuilding complex workers on the launch of a new mass production and emphasized that this was a unique event for the whole country because so far no one has built such vessels in Russia.

"I am sure that the shipbuilders will cope with all the schedules, the ship will be delivered exactly on time and there will be other orders to ensure new jobs, tax revenues to the budget of Bolshoy Kamen and Primorsky Krai and of course this factory will be the most advanced,” - said Oleg Kozhemyako and added that «Zvezda» shipyard is the future of shipbuilding.

The launch of the major “Aframax” tanker is scheduled for 2020. According to Igor Sechin, the beginning of the release of such vessels is not only an indicator of the growth of technological, industrial and personnel potential of the shipbuilding industry but also a matter of national security and independence.

In total, the company is going to build 12 similar tankers as well as a number of multifunctional ice-class supply vessels and arctic shuttle tankers.

“The construction of a modern shipyard for the large-tonnage shipbuilding is being carried out on the basis of an instruction from the President. The project involves the construction of production capacity of the shipbuilding complex “Zvezda”, the engineering infrastructure and houses for workers. The first part of the production capacity of the shipyard was commissioned in 2016-2017. The “Rosneft” company has provided a pilot loading of a new shipbuilding complex having concluded contracts for the construction of 25 vessels, ” - the head of the company noted.

During the ceremony Oleg Kozhemyako and Igor Sechin concluded an agreement on cooperation between Primorsky Krai and “Rosneft”. Then they inspected the production facilities of the shipbuilding complex.

Later the Acting Governor met with the shipyard workers and discussed with them topical issues which are important for the development of the region.
